Women’s Night #4 – Feb. 23!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

We are working towards making our space more inviting for women wishing to learn more about bicycles.
Wednesday the 23th of February from 6pm to 9pm is Women’s Night at the Bike Kitchen once again! The space is for self identified women and is trans inclusive.

The evening will consist of a one hour tutorial (from 6-7) and then shop time to work on your own bicycle with instruction when you need it. Beginners are very encouraged to attend. Knowledgeable mechanics and volunteers will be able to answer your bike questions and help you get your ride in tip top shape.

The evening will conclude with a bike ride east and possibly a stop for beer along the way. We aim to provide a relaxed evening of fun and wrenching.

Bring: Your bad self and your bicycle – if you have one. If you don’t have one, feel free to come from 6-7 for the tutorial only, and if you want to learn some more or practice your skills, you can help someone else fix their bike.

Cost: $5-$10 Sliding Scale. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

Inquire at ubc.bikecoop@gmail.com with your comments or concerns.

Hope to See You There!

Sea to Sky Ride Be Bike-Curious Series

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

When: Saturday, January 29
Meet at UBC by Bike Coop/ Kitchen: 10 AM
Meet at Confederation Park: 1 PM to 3 PM
Meet at SFPIRG office: 5PM
Come on out to our Sea to Sky bike day trip that is a part of this semester’s Be Bike-Curious Series. The event is a joint venture between the UBC Bike Coop, SFPIRG Bike Coop and Sustainable SFU. On our ride from UBC campus to SFU Burnaby campus not only will you get to battle across the city with great people, but we will also be accompanied by a Musical Bike and have plenty of rest stops to admire the city or catch your breath!

We will stop to lunch, game, and blab at Confederation Park from 1 PM-3 PM. After, the MOUNTAIN. I’ll be taking the music bike up, so join me in destroying this topography. At the top of the mountain we will meet more people, be shown around their interesting campus spaces, sidewalk chalk bomb our favourite, then enjoy some mountain and rooftop sunset and emerging city lights. Pub food dinner followed by more fun and lastly, a sleepover (at our dear friend Ashleigh’s) for the first 12 people who sign up for the event. No worries, if you must be back on Saturday night, our final location is five minutes away from Holdom skytrain station. Showers and bike storage are available!

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in cutting their teeth in the touring world. Also if you want to meet some new interesting people, also if you like amazing sights and if you are cool and wanna roll for a couple of hours, listening to sweet music put on by the Ministry of Sound (George-y boy).

We have breakfast, lunch and coffee covered, so bring some cash to get your own dinner with us on saturday night.

So dust off your seats, oil those chains and get ready for a great ride!
Email me at adrianmartynkiw@gmail.com if you would like to reserve a space to sleepover.
Those that do, it will likely be required to bring a mattress and a sleeping bag.

Regards,
