Long Weekend Shop Closure

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

To celebrate bunnies and chocolate The Bike Kitchen is going to be closed from Friday, April 6th through to Monday, April 9th.

Happy long weekend everyone!

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Hey everybody,

I know the last few F-ride-ays have been kinda rained out (or just no one showed up), so I’d thought I’d be extra-explicit and say that F-ride-ay is definitely happening this week [ march 23rd ]. It’s supposed to be sunny (not that forecasts can ever be counted on), so I’m hoping for a good turn out. The music bike needs some fresh air! Let’s have some fun!

Meet at the Bike Kitchen anytime after 12. Grab some free Community Eats lunch from Sprouts if you want, and come hang out. People that show up and participate in the ride will probably get cookies from me (while supplies last).

We ride at 1:30 p.m . If you’re gonna be late, just cruise around campus for a bit. Follow the music.

Tell your friends!

Fundraising News!

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

As you may or may not be aware – the AMS Bike Co-op is looking to diversify its funding sources so we can continue to do the work that we do in addition to expanding our services! We have consulted our members at last weeks AGM and have received their approval to move forward with pursuing an account with “Start an Evolution,” UBC’s fundraising organization. The membership also gave us permission to run a campaign. Working with “Start an Evolution” allows us to issue tax receipts – which is a hugely beneficial. If we decide to create a fundraising “campaign” with them – we will be obligated to share some member information (name, student number, and phone number) in order for “Start an Evolution” to run the campaign effectively.

If you have concerns or questions please email

Here is the official word from our AGM:

The General Membership hereby authorizes the board of the AMS Bike Co-op
to register a charitable account with “Start an Evolution” UBC. (passed)
The General Membership agrees to allow the board of the AMS Bike Co-op to
pursue a “campaign” with “Start an Evolution” UBC in the future: recognizing
that we will be required to provide a member list including student number,
name, and phone number. (passed)

Women’s Night – March 28

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Please join us for Women’s Night!

  • DATE: Wednesday, 28 March 2012
  • TIME: 6-9pm
***If you want to participate in Bike Co-op events and do not identify as a woman please come to one of our FREE volunteer nights that happen EVERY Tuesday from 6-9pm where everyone is welcome, including men, women and all other gender identities. Thank you for your support.***

We are working towards making our space more inviting for women wishing to learn more about bicycles.

Wednesday the 28th of September from 6pm to 9pm is Women’s Night at the Bike Kitchen once again! The space is for self identified women and is trans inclusive.

The evening will consist of shop time to work on your own bicycle with instruction and tutorials when you need them. Beginners are very encouraged to attend. Knowledgeable mechanics and volunteers will be able to answer your bike questions and help you get your ride in tip top shape.

We aim to provide a relaxed evening of fun and wrenching.

Bring: Your bad self and your bicycle – if you have one. If you don’t have one, feel free to come and pair up to help someone else fix their bike.

Cost: $5-$10 Sliding Scale. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

RSVP: to our facebook event.

Inquire: at with your comments or concerns.

Hope to See You There!

A Message for the Men: sorry about the invite. There is no way to only invite women from our co-op group. If you want to support the event you can encourage your lady friends to come!

Accessibility Info:

Very unfortunately, we are located down a flight of stairs. If you need assistance carrying your bicycle down into the space please lock your bike outside and come in to ask us for assistance. If you need ramp/elevator access please call or email us in advance and we can assist you into the space from the south side main floor access to the SUB. Bikes are not allowed inside of the SUB – so there are some major logistical issues with accessing our space. Fortunately, we have secured a more accessible space in the new SUB.

There is a gender neutral washroom on the second floor of the SUB. Washroom 253C – directly two floors above the Bike Kitchen. If you use the north stairs (closest to the Bike Kitchen) the washroom is located to your left, just around the corner once you reach the top of the stairs.
