New Not-for-profit Community Bike Space Seeking Help from Contractors/Carpenters/Skilled Handy-folk

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

The Kickstand is Vancouver’s newest community bike repair space where folks from all demographics can repair, maintain and build their own bicycles. On the grounds of the Britannia Community Centre, the space will serve the community of Grandview Woodland and seeks to open for the summer of 2012. With a focus on youth work programs it will provide a safe place for young people to flourish and grow while learning a skilled trade, gaining work experience, and contributing to their community.

The Kickstand is currently seeking volunteer assistance to draft plans for a wooden foundation that will house two re-purposed shipping containers. The containers will be used primarily as storage space for our tools, parts, and donated bicycles and will open up onto a covered area where people will be able to pull out stands for working on bikes. The location is on a slope and the foundation will need to ensure that the containers sit level.

Working with Britannia Community Centre this project is also supported by partnerships with the Vancouver Tool Library, the AMS Bike Co-op, Car-Free Vancouver and Our Community Bikes.

We look forward to hearing from you!
