The Bike Co-op is hiring a UBC Student!

MARKETING INTERN (MI) 
*note: open to International Undergrad students

Job Description
The Marketing Intern (MI) will help maintain and develop advertising for the programs of the AMS Bike Co-op, including the Bike Kitchen, Cycling Resource Centres (CRCs), the Bike Locker Program, the Bike Trailer Program, the Intro Mechanics Workshops, Women’s Night, and the Build Your Own Bike Program (BYOB). They will work in tandem with the AMS Bike Co-op board of directors and the manager of the Bike Kitchen to ensure that materials are appropriate, report directly to the board at weekly meetings, and undertake other Bike Co-op related tasks as required.

Key Tasks
• Maintain the existing promotional materials for the Co-op, such as the website, twitter, and Facebook page.
• Reach out to external organizations for promotional opportunities.
• Represent the AMS Bike Co-op at community events by tabling at information booths.
• Distribute posters, stickers, pamphlets, and informational materials and print more as needed.
• Hold regular office hours in coordination with, and in addition to the Programs Intern.
• Maintain the stock of promotional materials for CRC kits.
• Maintain overall organization of office space.
• Attend weekly Co-op Board meetings (Tuesdays 17h00-18h00).
• Perform other tasks for the Co-op and Bike Kitchen as directed by their supervisor.

Qualifications
This Work Study/Work Learn (WSWL) position is open only to current UBC-Vancouver international undergraduate students who are not already working in a WSWL job. If you are unsure of your eligibility for this position within the WSWL program, please contact us at careers.workstudy@ubc.ca.

• Experience working in non-profit organizations.
• Ability and willingness to work with students, unpaid volunteers and staff.
• Experience with collective decision-making practices.
• Knowledge/interest about cycling culture and cycling advocacy.
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner through writing and speaking.
• Experience with public relations and basic office administration tasks.
• Basic computer skills (word processing, e-mail, database management, spreadsheets).
• Understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive values.
• Due to the funding source for this position, it is open only to international undergraduate students.

Duration and Payment
The duration of the position is from September 3, 2012 to April 30, 2013. The student will work 10 hours/week for a maximum of 300 hours in total. The wage is $13.27 an hour.

SPOOKY RIDE

Sunday, October 21st, 2012

This Halloween, join the AMS Bike Co-op for a spooktacular bike ride!

Meet at the Bike Kitchen at 7:00 pm for bike decorating and face painting! Costumes are highly encouraged!

Roll out will be at 7:30. In the spirit of Halloween the route and final location will be a MYSTERY!! (OOooOOoo!!!) with plenty of games and surprises along the way.

– Musical saddles
– Bicycle relay races
– Sneaky velo-statues
– Halloween scavenger hunts
– Plenty of tricks, and some treats too

Bring Yer Own Spirits (booze, or otherworldly nebulous manifestations of the human soul, whichever you prefer) and snacks to share at the final location 🙂
