Women and Queer Night is January 9!

Saturday, December 29th, 2012

Exciting news!  Women’s Night is now Women and Queer Night, a monthly shop night for anyone who identifies as a woman and/or LGBTQ.  We’re very excited to grow our learning community and introduce more folks to the wonderful world of bike mechanics.  If you self-identify as female or LBGTQ you are welcome to attend – feel free to email if you have any questions.

The first Wednesday of the month from 6pm – 9pm is Women and Queer Night at the Bike Kitchen!

Women and LBGTQ people have traditionally not been as welcome in a shop setting and may be deterred from learning how to perform maintenance on their own bike due to past experience or societal precedents.  The aim of Women and Queer Night is to break down these barriers, and provide a safe space for anyone who identifies as female and/or queer to ask questions, receive instruction and become oriented to the shop.

The evening consists of a brief introduction to the shop for newcomers, a tutorial, and shop time to work on your own bicycle with instruction when you need it. Beginners are very encouraged to attend. Knowledgeable mechanics and volunteers will be able to answer your bike questions and help you get your ride in tiptop shape.

Cost: $5-$10 Sliding Scale. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

*** Note: If you want to participate in Bike Co-op events and do not identify as a woman please come to one of our FREE volunteer nights that happen EVERY Tuesday from 6-9pm where everyone is welcome, including men, women and all other gender identities. Thank you for your support.**
