Westham Island Ride

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

Join us on this fun social ride, and check out really cool birds in Richmond!

  • Where: Vancouver side of the Canada Line Bridge (the one that goes to Richmond)
  • When: Sunday, November 3rd. Meeting up at 06h55. Wheels rolling at 07h05 to catch the shuttle.

The bird sanctuary, pumpkin farms, fruit winery, local honey, and salmon sausage can all be visited in a day. We will spend about 2-3 full hours at the sanctuary, everything else will be short stops.

Weather-Dependency: the ride will be cancelled only if it is actually raining on Sunday and the forecast says it will continue all day.

Extra details: Bring a lunch, some warm clothes, a tuque, and gloves!

The Bike Co-op will pay for people’s entry fee to the bird sanctuary.

For more information on this ride or future rides, join the google group AMS Bike Co-op Tours and Group Rides.

Join The Board!

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

If you love bikes and want to be more involved as a volunteer, join the Bike Co-op’s Board of Directors! Be a part of the group of bike-friendly folks that guides the goings on of the Co-op.

The board is the heart of the Co-op, and develops and facilitates its programming and events. Members of the board of directors are charged with the direction of the Co-op and are entrusted to make decisions about how it is run. Important decisions are made by the entire board, which meets weekly. We employ a consensus based decision making model.

If this sounds like something you’d like to join (and why, of course it does!), then don’t hesitate to run for election at our Fall General Meeting!

Where: The Bike Kitchen
When: Tuesday, November 12th, 6-8pm

**We will ask you to speak a few words if you’re running, so be ready!**

Volunteers needed this weekend

Friday, October 18th, 2013

We have two fun volunteer opportunities this weekend!  Come pitch in and meet some of the cool folks of the Bike Co-op!  We like to keep our volunteers well fed, so you will get a tasty snack (or even a free lunch!) out of the bargain.  Plus the hours count if you’re working towards earning your membership.  Sweet deal!

Opportunity #1: The Spare pArts art show is coming to a wrap – on Saturday, October 19th we will be taking down the exhibit at 11:00 am. Come pitch in to help take down the art and clean up after what is sure to be an eventful closing night party 😉 Sign up here, or contact director@bikecoop.ca if you have any questions!

Opportunity #2: Join the Bike Co-op at the Kitsilano Farmers Market! We will be at the market offering free tune-ups, bike maps, and cycling resources. 10 am – 2 pm at Larch and 10th. If you sign up as a booth assistant, you will be chatting with community members about cycling, handing out pamphlets and resources, and tuning up bikes (no pressure if you’re new to bike mechanics – one of the more experienced volunteers can lead the tuneups or help you). All volunteers get a free lunch. Sign up here, or contact director@bikecoop.ca if you have any questions!
