Add your voice to UBC’s Transportation Plan!

Friday, November 22nd, 2013

Add your voice to the development of UBC’s Transportation Plan!

In April 2013, UBC Campus and Community Planning reached out to and heard from the university community on issues related to on-campus transportation. Your feedback has helped identify opportunities to better address how we get around on campus, whether by foot, on wheels or by public transit. Feel free to provide your thoughts and ideas on the proposed transportation policies and how to make on-campus transportation even better!

You’re more than welcome to provide your personal feedback by filling out their online questionnaire, click here.

For more information on UBC’s Transportation Plan and what’s proposed to be changed, click here.

Bike Co-op Ride to the Races!

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

The Burnaby Velodrome has race nights every Friday night, where the public can come and watch for cheap. Once every month during the winter, there’s a special event called “Feature Race Night.” They set up a beer garden inside, there’s music, and good food vendors (Cafe Musette, among others). All that, plus you get to hang out and watch track races all night.

The ride starts from UBC and the velodrome is at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre. It’s about 25km from UBC (according to google maps).

  • Where: Harry Jerome Sports Centre, meet up at UBC
  • When: Friday, November 15th, 4:30pm (meet up at UBC), 6pm (race begins)

The entrance fee is $5 for the Velodrome.

Women and Queer Night – Nov. 6!

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

The November edition of Women and Queer Night is tomorrow – November 6!  Drop by between 6 and 9 pm to work on your bike with our knowledgeable volunteers.  See below for more info!  You can rsvp on the facebook event too if you feel so inclined:

Hope to see you there!!

Women and LGBTQ people have traditionally not been as welcome in a shop setting and may be deterred from learning how to do maintenance on their own bike due to past experience or societal precedents. The aim of Women and Queer Night is to break down these barriers, and provide a safe space for anyone who identifies as female and/or LGBTQ to ask questions, receive instruction and become oriented to the shop.

When?: Wednesday, November 6th. Drop in anytime between 6:00 and 9:00 pm. (Fun fact: we run WQ Night on the first Wednesday of every month, so if you can’t make it this time around, come by for the next one in December!)

What?: Open shop time!

Where?: The Bike Kitchen. We’re located in the basement of the Student Union Building (6138 Student Union Boulevard). To get to the shop, go to the North side of the building and go down the stairs to the left of the lower entrance (look for the bike on a pole).

Bring: Your bicycle! We will have knowledgeable volunteers available to help you learn how to get your ride in tip-top shape! If you do not have a bike, no worries – we can still teach you some neat skills and answer any bike related questions you may have.

Cost: Free!
